International ATSEP Day 2018
Message by the President of IFATSEA
IFATSEA is the global voice of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel, defined by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as ATSEP.
On 12th November we celebrate the
International ATSEP Day!
Our profession is an important link in the aviation safety chain.
Pilots rely on Air Traffic Controller, that a flight is safeguarded and the separation of aircrafts in air traffic is maintained. Pilots rely on accurate electronic signals transmitted from ground navigational aids to follow the planned flight path and to follow signals transmitted e.g. by Instrument Landing Systems to exercise safe landing operations even under bad weather situations with low visibility.
Complex CNS/ATM technical systems are needed for the provision of Air Traffic Control Services. Aircrafts are displayed in real time on radar screens. A global digital aviation network ensures, that Air Traffic Controllers know the planned flight route. Technical systems guarantee the voice communication between Pilots and ATC.
ATSEPs guarantee the Accuracy, Integrity, Availability and Continuity of these systems and services around the globe 24/7 throughout the year.
While we move into a new era and increased reliance on Automation in aviation, the ICAO at the recently held 13th Air Navigation Conference, recognised the increasing role of ATSEP for maintaining a safe Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) infrastructure.
Aviation drives the world economy. Well trained, qualified, competent and in several states licensed Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel, install, maintain and control all these air traffic control systems to safeguard passengers, aircraft crews, and cargo during their flight, as well as the Safety, Performance, Resilience and smooth operation of the whole aviation system.
ATSEP are a key enabler in the safe and efficient provision of Air Navigation Services.
I’m proud to to be part of this key aviation profession. I invite you to celebrate with IFATSEA the profession of Air Traffic Safety Electronic Personnel (ATSEP), that ensure safety and security of aviation on the 12th of November.
