IFATSEA Europe PRESS RELEASE

We have been informed, with great concern, by IFATSEA’s affiliate member in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ‘UVTO’—the professional association representing the ATSEP community—about the potential freezing of accounts belonging to the Agency for the Provision of Services in Air Navigation and Aeronautical Services of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHANSA).

BHANSA is a non-profit organization responsible for providing air navigation and Aeronautical services, including the collection of overflight fees, which are exclusively allocated to maintaining and enhancing air traffic safety.

Air navigation safety consists of a highly complex and continuous process that requires ongoing investment in the modernization of technical equipment, as well as the continuous professional development and training of personnel.

IFATSEA believes that the prolonged blockade of BHANSA’s accounts raises serious concerns about the potential consequences for air traffic management, airspace control, and overall aviation safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Any compromise to BHANSA’s operational capacity could jeopardize the entire aviation system in the country, disrupt airport operations, and create a cascading effect on regional air traffic.

We sincerely hope that a resolution will soon be reached to safeguard operations in the region, while ensuring the well-being and working conditions of ATSEP at BHANSA, and prevent any negative consequences arising from an unrelated contractual dispute.

IFATSEA calls on all relevant authorities, including the European Commission, Eurocontrol, and EASA, as well as key stakeholders such as airports and airlines, to cooperate urgently in resolving this issue. It is imperative to ensure the uninterrupted provision of air navigation services and to safeguard flight safety, passenger safety, and the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s airspace.

Yours Sincerely,

Costas Christoforou

IFATSEA Director Europe
